Process For Scroll Art Portraits

First a copy of the image is fastened to the 1/8″ thick baltic birch plywood, then all of the darkest values are cut out of the wood with a scroll saw. After this is completed, a dark background is placed behind the work to accentuate the contrast and dimension of the work.

Then the wood is burned with a wood burner to put in the mid-tone values. Once that has been finished, then the work is coloured with India Ink and an airbrush.

This particular piece was then coloured with Dr. PH Martin’s coloured India Inks with a Vega 1000 airbrush from Badger Airbrush Co.
